Buying from ABS Standardbreds

We are all about finding the right rider, for the right horse, and vice verse! .... We will not sell to the first person to make an offer, we want to make sure the match is a good one - our goal is about getting it right, the first time.

But what happens if we don't?! .... No worries! We understand that not every horse is right for every rider... We want the horses we retrain to be happy in their new homes, and we want the riders of those horses, to enjoy riding! So with this in mind, we offer:

• A 2 week, no questions asked period where you can return the horse and receive a refund... (within reason; while we will take back all of our horses, if the horse is returned damaged then an agreed buy-back price will be negotiated).
• If for any reason, after that initial 2 week period lapses, you find you cannot maintain care for a horse you have purchased from ABS, we ask that you contact us first. If we are not in a position to buy the horse back (for whatever reason, be it current numbers or simple logistics), we will offer assistance in finding a suitable home for the horse in question.

We would also like to encourage all new owners to stay in contact with us! Drop us an email every now and then to let us know how your Standy is going - we love updates!!

Well, what a handsome man.... Stunning in looks, stunning in nature!

Paulie has come to us from Bathurst, and happens to be another stable favourite ....  I could immediately see why, the first time I saw him I loved him, and that was from 50m away!! He was even nicer up close; not to mention has an absolutely beautiful, quiet, calm and sensible nature .... 

Update - 17th Jan 2010: Not only is Paulie one good looking gelding, he's a super smooch to boot! He chased my car today, nickering until I pulled up .... As soon as I got out of the car, he trotted over and politely requested affection! He watches where I go with interest, stands patiently while tied, and when you come back into sight, his ears are still pricked with an "oh! there you are, please can I have more pats" look on his face ..... He's very well mannered, respects personal space, and is generally a real pleasure to handle.

Honestly, I keep wondering to myself if there will EVER come a day when I'm not surprised about how wonderful this breed is .....I think I fall in love with every horse that comes into my paddocks, and am always genuinely surprised at their calm disposition, trainability and willingness to please .... Paulie is certainly no exception!! 

Today, he modeled for his first photo shoot, and had his first lesson under saddle .... He was nothing short of perfectly behaved... He looks to be an easy keeper! He was in normal race condition when he came to us, but has since put on weight quickly in the 2 weeks he's been here, and his coat is nothing short of gleaming!

One this is for sure; this guy is going to make someone a very happy horse owner!

Update - 28th Jan: Okay, so this really isn't an update .... Paulie's progress (or lack thereof) is entirely my fault ....I'm trying to finalize the sale of our house, the purchase of our new property, our wedding (we literally fly out in 4 weeks), full-time work, and maybe a little bit of sleep in there somewhere!!!  

I'll get back to him this weekend and post a proper update ... In the meantime, he's settled in with ultimate ease, is super friendly, and a joy to have in the paddock in general ....

Iron Rock (Rocky)

2000 Bay Gelding - 16.2hh (and about 16.2 WIDE!)

Rocky arrived last night (24th Feb), and oh my, what an imposing presense as he got off the truck .... He's around 16.2 in height, but possibly the most solid boy I've seen in a long time ... I swear, if you painted a white blaze on him and glued on some feathers, you'd call him a Clydie Cross (with that endearing roman profile we all love!)

2001 Black/Brown Gelding - 16hh

Jag also arrived last night, and what a pretty boy he is! Both of the boys are in great nick, and I'm told this guy has alot more 'go' than his laidback counterpart Rocky .... Jag won just over $48k on the track, and I've got a feeling this guy might make a good eventer! He's nicely built, compact in the body, alert, and looks quick and clean on those foot ....
